Functional Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty

Overview

Functional surgery treats a nose that does not breathe well. A bent septum, collapsed nasal valves or enlarged turbinates narrow the airway and cause blocked breathing, mouth breathing at night and poor sleep. Correcting them can be done alone or combined with reshaping.

Functional Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty
Our approach to care

Nasal endoscopy shows where the blockage is. Where the picture is unclear, imaging of the sinuses may be arranged.

Septoplasty, turbinate reduction and valve repair are done through the nostrils with no external scar, and can be combined with rhinoplasty in one operation.

Saline rinses keep the lining clean while it heals, and any nasal sprays you already use are reviewed so they help rather than hinder. Breathing is re-checked with the endoscope at follow-up.

Your first visit takes about 45 minutes: a conversation about what bothers you, an examination of the nose inside and out with a small endoscope, and standardised photographs. You leave with a clear explanation of what surgery can and cannot change, and time to decide.
