Prof. Irfan Ahmed

Biography.

Prof. Irfan Ahmed is a distinguished consultant surgeon specializing in complex liver, pancreas, and bile duct diseases, with a particular interest in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and the development of modern surgical innovations. He has pioneered various specialized techniques, including Virtual Scarless Surgery, which he has introduced globally.

Prof. Ahmed earned his MD from the University of Leeds, where he conducted groundbreaking research on cold liver preservation, developing a novel liver preservation solution supported and funded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed his higher surgical training in the Mid-Trent Higher Surgical Rotation before being appointed as a consultant HPB surgeon at NHS Grampian. He holds academic appointments as a professor at the University of Aberdeen and serves as a visiting professor at Robert Gordon University in the UK.

A prolific researcher, Prof. Ahmed has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and delivered more than 250 scientific presentations at national and international conferences. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including five medals, merit scholarships, and various presentation awards at international forums.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Prof. Ahmed is a member of the Court of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng) and the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations (JCIE). He is also an internationally recognized instructor in advanced laparoscopic skills, teaching surgeons worldwide. His contributions extend to developing telemedicine and tele-mentoring for young surgeons using modern technologies.
